Unfortunately, simply wiping the chain with a cloth before lubrication is by no means sufficient, as friction mainly occurs inside the chain, where dirt accumulates. Not only does the chain need to be clean, but also all parts it comes into contact with (e.g., sprockets, cassettes, derailleur). Some use special cleaners, a chain cleaning device, or even remove the chain/sprockets and soak them in diesel, for example. Each of these cleaning methods has its advantages and disadvantages. Our philosophy: Cleaning and lubricating in one step!

The most important aspect is, of course, lubrication! When lubricating, ensure that no foreign particles are on the chain, such as debris, old resinous oil, or environmental influences (dust, gravel, fine sand). Therefore, thorough and reliable chain cleaning is essential beforehand!

External factors such as dirt and dusty environments cause dust particles to adhere and accumulate. The resulting abrasive effect leads to increased wear. Additionally, wet and humid conditions cause corrosion in the chain’s inner bearings and drive bushings, exposing them to higher friction. Resin formation in mineral oil and decomposition particles due to high temperatures caused by increased friction negatively impact lubrication. Traditional oil and grease lubrication cannot cope with these conditions. Their use leads to higher energy expenditure for the rider, excessive wear, and a reduced lifespan of the chain and sprockets. Ultimately, long-term functional reliability cannot be ensured. The right product, meeting all requirements, combined with proper maintenance and application, is the key factor for a long-lasting, trouble-free chain lifespan.

Failing to remove foreign particles or resinous oil automatically results in higher friction and thus increased wear. Additionally, they cause the chain to become stiff and less flexible. This is crucial for smooth shifting performance.

To meet the challenging and varied demands of cycling – road cycling, mountain biking – one of the most important and demanding tasks is properly maintaining and lubricating the chain to ensure benefits like smooth shifting, easy pedaling, and a long chain lifespan. Firstly, a clean chain is the most crucial requirement for adhesion of the lubricant to the chain’s surface, allowing optimal coverage. Secondly, due to the fine tolerances between moving parts, an extremely penetrating lubricant is necessary to reach all chain links, inner bearings, drive bushings, and pins for optimal lubrication and protection.

"HTKF 105" consists of a solvent combination (cleaning-active and highly penetrating) and our HIGH TECH additive, which is homogeneously incorporated into the solvent. In its original state, the additive would be too viscous to penetrate the critical areas of the chain’s inner bearings and provide lubrication. Besides acting as a carrier, it also serves as a cleaning agent by flushing out old resinous substances, dust, dirt, and old deposits from the chain. Once the residual lubricant is completely removed, a chemical bond forms, ensuring corrosion protection even during prolonged rainy rides. Aging and resin formation of the chain are prevented. Anti-seizure and wear protection agents prevent micro-welding, reduce excessive wear between metal surfaces, and minimize abrasion under high pressure, such as during mountain rides.
